Our Purpose:  To provide high quality, developmentally appropriate learning environments, foster exploration, and encourage play.

Through our holistic 2Gen approach to services, STEPS strives to strengthen the skills of all participants and prepare children and families to be school ready.

Head Start

STEPS provides early childhood education services to Preschool age children 3-5 in Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte,  Lunenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward Counties.

Families must meet federal eligibility guidelines. 

EaRly
Head Start

STEPS Early Head Start Program provides early childhood education services to infants and toddlers, ages 6 weeks - 36 months.  Services are provided in Amelia, Charlotte, Lunenburg and Prince Edward Counties.

 

Families must meet federal eligibility guidelines.

Expectant Mothers

STEPS Expectant Mothers Program serves pregnant women and their families.  The program offers a research based curriculum that helps mom and the family prepare for baby. Staff assist mom with all aspects of prenatal and postpartum care.  The program includes support groups, CPR/First Aid training, hospital visit, breastfeeding, child development, safety, and home visits. 

Little Movers CHildcare

Now Available in Farmville!

STEPS offers preschool and childcare services to families who do not quality for Head Start or Early Head Start Services.

Families will receive the same comprehensive services in any of our classrooms.  Our Little Movers slots are available at our Longwood Avenue & Layne Street Locations.

$210  Infants (birth - 15 months)

$200 Toddlers (16-36 months)

$195 (preschool age 3-5 years)

$50 Registration Fee

MIXED Delivery & Subsidy

Now Available in Farmville!

STEPS offers preschool and childcare services to families who do not quality for Head Start or Early Head Start Services but might not be able to afford the cost of paying out of pocket.

​

Families will receive the same comprehensive services in any of our classrooms. Mixed Delivery is state funded childcare, that is 12 months of the year.  Parents will have a co-payment that will not exceed 7% of their income. 

​

Parents must be employed to qualify for these services. Staff will assist parents to maximize funding supports.
